New Year, New Books

Hi all.  I know it's been a minute since I wrote on here, but with the holidays and traveling...well let's just say it's hard work keeping your blog updated.  I mean, who knew you would actually have to be dedicated! LOL But, I am enjoying this journey nonetheless.  One of my New Year's Resolutions things to do for the new year, is to read more.  I used to read books like they were all about to go extinct.  Even carried a book in my purse because riding public transportation, you NEVER know how long your wait is.  Despite what the schedule says. So to make sure that I do read different genres, I came up with 12 different genres for each month of the year.  During the month, I'll only read books read at least one book related to that genre.  Now the problem isn't going to be reading the books, it's finding books for some of these topics that I'd be interested in reading i.e. romance and science fiction.  This is where you guys can help me!
January - Fiction
February - Romance
March - Mystery
April - Political
May - Auto/Biography
June - Chick Lit
July - International
August - Classics
September - Made to Movies
October - Historical
November - Sports
December - Science Fiction
I invite all of you to join me in my challenge.  It's a great way expand your literary portfolio.  Plus it'll give you something to talk about amongst your friends, during that akward date, or to that random guy on the metro.  If there are any books you would like me to check out, please let me know.  Happy reading!

  1. Reading is a long lost art. I too have realized I was slacking in this category and have decided to read all of the books I have currently in my possession over the next 6months (I sold my TV and couch to force myself to be more productive, thus the aggressive 8books in 6months outlook). Currently I am reading "the book of basketball" by bill simmons. I am reading this one, mostly because a friend that I debate sports with has read it, and I don't want him to have the upper-hand in terms of knowledge. Haha. Next up.... 7 daily habits for Highly effective People.

  2. I have had reading more on my list of things to do for far too long. This year I decided to actually do it. I just finished The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. It was a great read and I highly recommend it. I received Kindred as a gift a few weeks ago and its next on my list. I've never read Octavia Butler but she's supposed to be phenomenal and she's from Dena, so she's got much cred on my street.
